Dakereon Joyner reveals Xavier Thomas unfollowed him on social media following Clemson upset

After a long run of Clemson dominating South Carolina, the Gamecocks finally got their revenge. In a close 31-30 game, South Carolina beat Clemson and possibly cost the Tigers a College Football Playoff spot. For an experienced player like Dakereon Joyner, this was a huge deal.
While speaking to the media, Dakereon Joyner was asked if he’s been interacting with Clemson fans or giving them a hard time over the win.
“My boy Xavier Thomas unfollowed me on Instagram,” Dakereon Joyner laughed. “So, I guess that does it. I’ve interacted with a lot of those guys, but that was the one. So.”
After that, Dakereon Joyner emphasized that he and Xavier Thomas are close, calling them brothers. So, it’s all in good fun because of the rivalry between their respective schools.
Dakereon Joyner was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2018. He has been committed to South Carolina since 2017. He played a huge role in South Carolina’s win over North Carolina in the Mayo Bowl last season too. That Gamecocks team had major issues at quarterback in 2021. So, in the bowl, Joyner played quarterback for South Carolina, going 9/9 for 160 yards and a touchdown.

For his part, Xavier Thomas is a former five-star edge rusher who has been with Clemson as long as Dakereon Joyner has been with South Carolina.
Dakereon Joyner on teammates opting out
Players opting out of bowl games has become a hot-button issue. For some people, there is a lot of animosity toward those who skip a bowl game. At the same time, others see it as a reasonable decision. For Dakereon Joyner, though, he has nothing but love for his teammates who make that decision.
“Oh yeah, there’s never no bad blood. Those are our brothers to the end. We wish them well. Want them to go get what they want, whatever that may mean,” Joyner said.
“Want them to be happy — but those are our brothers to the end.”
