South Carolina head women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley has the Gamecocks on a historic march this season. Her team continues with an unblemished record and they’re looking to become the first undefeated team in women’s college basketball since UConn in 2015-2016. South Carolina is preparing to face N.C. State in the Final Four. And Staley has racked up the bonus money along the way in the Gamecocks season. On Wednesday, she earned Naismith Women’s College Basketball Coach of the Year honors, reeling in a $25,000 bonus.

Fubo’s spring offer just kicked off – For a limited time, new subscribers can save $20 on their first month of Fubo’s Pro, Elite, and Premier plans.

According to Steve Berkowitz, Staley’s bonus total has increased to $430,000 for the 2023-2024 season.

South Carolina currently sits at 36-0 overall and they’re aiming to complete one of the best women’s basketball seasons of all-time. They also finished SEC play at 16-0. The Indiana Hoosiers certainly gave the Gamecocks a scare in the NCAA Tournament, with South Carolina pulling it out, 79-75.

Their biggest scare of the season came in the SEC Tournament Semifinals against Tennessee. South Carolina’s Kamilla Cardoso drained a wide-open three-pointer to lift the Gamecocks to a 74-73 win as time expired.

Up next, they’ll face off against the No. 3 seeded N.C. State Wolfpack on Friday, March 5th in the Final Four. Tip-off time for that one is set for 7:00 PM EST and that one will be nationally televised on ESPN.

Staley has built South Carolina women’s basketball into one of the nation’s most dominant programs over the years, leading them to five Final Fours in the last eight NCAA Tournaments (2015, 2017, 2021, 2022, 2023). During her 15 seasons there, she’s already brought in two national championships (2017 and 2022) and will aim for her third in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

During her college basketball playing career, Staley was one of the greatest players in Virginia women’s basketball history during her time with the Cavaliers. She had her jersey retired. Once she wrapped up her career there, she scored more than 2,000 points, had more than 700 rebounds, more than 700 assists, and more than 400 steals, becoming the only women’s basketball player in ACC history to accomplish the feat.

In April of 2008, she was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.
