Dawn Staley promises to wear Eagles gear again on 'Winning Monday'
Dawn Staley has never hid her Philadelphia sports fandom throughout her career and it’s no different with the Eagles.
The Eagles are scheduled to take on the Washington commanders Sunday in the NFC Championship with a trip to Super Bowl LIX on the line. Following a win over LSU Friday, Staley was asked why she didn’t wear Eagles gear after the game.
She’s saving it for a special occasion.
“I’ll pick that back up on ‘Winning Monday,’” Staley said postgame.
Of course, Staley would love to sport some midnight green or kelly green attire if the Eagles beat their NFC East rival and advance to the Super Bowl for the second time in three years.
South Carolina improved to 19-1 on the year with a win over LSU, giving the Tigers’ their first loss of the season. The teams came in ranked No. 2 and 5, respectively.
If Staley’s favorite pro football team can play like her Gamecocks, the Philadelphia might be Super Bowl bound.
After the first quarter, it wasn’t the prettiest game for South Carolina or LSU, to say the least. But Staley was glad her squad could grind out a victory like that.
“It is. I mean, I think we’re chameleons, so to speak,” Staley said. “You know, we can play the type of game that’s being played. I thought we were forced to play a certain way tonight, and it was just the gravity of the game. It was necessary for us to win this game, the implications of the SEC standings, the NCAA Tournament, like all of those things matter. And we can say it’s not a big game, but it’s a big game.

“It’s a big game come March, when we’re playing in the SEC Tournament, you know, when the NCAA committee gets together and see us winning this game, and for the tiebreaker as well.”
Like her fellow Philadelphia Eagles fans at Lincoln Financial Field, Staley noticed the significant home court advantage against LSU.
“That’s probably the loudest it’s been,” Staley said. “And I know some people may may argue that, you know, maybe a UConn situation might have been louder, but I mean, for them, I mean on the Friday night, at 5 p.m. to pack the house, to change their plans, because some people flew in to see the game On Thursday and got pushed back, Quite incredible.
“I will never get tired of this place being full and them cheering us on, and I’ll never tired of just showing my appreciation for them.”
