Dylan Stewart penalized for shooting imaginary gun at Jaxson Dart after sack
In the third quarter of Saturday’s game against Ole Miss, Dylan Stewart made a huge play when he sacked Jaxson Dart. As he celebrated, he appeared to act as if he was shooting an imaginary gun at the quarterback – and he was penalized for it.
The play would’ve made it an Ole Miss fourth down, but the 15-yard penalty extended the drive. The Rebels eventually got a 44-yard field goal from Caden Davis to extend their lead to 27-3 over South Carolina as the fourth quarter approached.
It was Stewart’s third tackle of the day and his first sack. He continues to make an instant impact as a freshman on the South Carolina defense, entering Saturday second on the team in sacks.
Ole Miss took a commanding lead over South Carolina in the first half, jumping out in front 24-3 by halftime. Davis’ field goal extended the lead to 27-3, which held as the fourth quarter began in Columbia Saturday evening.
Stewart arrived at South Carolina as the crown jewel of the Gamecocks’ 2024 recruiting class. He was a Five Star Plus+ prospect, meaning he was one of the only players ranked by all four major recruiting media companies as a five star. He was the No. 17 overall player from the cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Dylan Stewart sack celebration draws ire
Stewart continues to make his presence felt as a true freshman. While Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Williams get most of the attention, ESPN’s Dan Mullen previously raved about the way Stewart can impact games on defense.
“Well both receivers are dynamic playmakers, but Dylan Stewart is a game wrecker for the Gamecocks,” Mullen said. “Even though he only has 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles on the year, he dominates the game. The pressures he causes on the quarterback, the attention he draws from the offense. You have got to know where he is and pay attention to him.”
Ole Miss went on to complete the 27-3 victory over South Carolina to improve to 5-1 on the season. Dylan Stewart ended the day with another tackle, giving him four – including three for loss – and the lone sack of Jaxson Dart.
