4-star PG Eli Ellis commits to South Carolina
Eli Ellis, a four-star point guard in the 2025 class, has committed to South Carolina.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound junior out of Moravian Prep (N.C.) chose the Gamecocks over a final group of College of Charleston, VCU, Mississippi State, and Virginia Tech.
According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Ellis is the No. 99 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle. He’s also the No. 17 point guard prospect and the No. 4 player in the state of North Carolina. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Ellis on his commitment to South Carolina
Eli Ellis went in-depth on his decision to choose the Gamecocks with On3.
“I chose South Carolina because my whole life I’ve been an underdog,” Ellis said. “That’s where I thrive and that’s when I’m my best. South Carolina are the underdogs and everybody loves an underdog. I also chose USC because of how much it reminded me of home. On my visit it felt like I had to go there.”
His relationship with the coaching staff also weighed heavily in his commitment.
“I love the coaching staff at South Carolina. Another reason I chose USC was how much coach (Lamont) Paris believed in me. Nobody thinks I can play in the SEC but coach Paris knows I can. Coach (Tim) Buckley is a great guy and has been talking to me the whole way and so has everybody else on the staff. They all have a great bond and treated me like family.”

Ellis believes South Carolina’s style of play will be an excellent match for him.
“They have a plan for me and their play style of shooting threes fits perfectly with my game. His players have this freedom and swagger that is fun to watch. I enjoy playing with that swag and freedom and look forward to in the future.”
Ellis might be two years away from playing college basketball, but he has a strong message for Gamecock fans.
“Get ready because I’m not the only big-named guy coming to USC. What did Deion say, ‘I’m bringing luggage with me and it’s Louis.”
