Florida State transfer wide receiver Vandrevius Jacobs commits to South Carolina
Florida State transfer wide receiver Vandrevius Jacobs has committed to South Carolina, On3’s Gamecock Central has learned. Jacobs will be making the move from the ACC to the SEC and will have four years of eligibility to work under head coach Shane Beamer.
Jacobs was in the portal for around a week, entering on April 22. Spring practice had already been completed in Tallahassee and the same can be said about Columbia. Hitting the ground running in the summer could lead to what everyone hopes is a productive fall camp.
Last season was a redshirt one from Jacobs, appearing in just three games as a Florida State player. He caught three passes for 60 yards and a touchdown.
South Carolina has taken a lot of portal players this cycle, with the number now up to 21. Jacobs is the fourth wide receiver the Gamecocks have added to the roster but just the second who previously played for a Power Five program.
Jacobs played high school football at Fort Pierce (FL) Westwood High School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 337 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
On3 was higher on Jacobs than the rest of the industry, having him at No. 174 in the On300.

Per the On3 Transfer Portal Industry Rankings, Jacobs was the No. 176 player available this cycle and the No. 34 wide receiver. Not a ton of previous production likely calculates into the ranking but South Carolina has to be happy with adding a former blue-chip receiver with a full four years of eligibility remaining.

The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at the Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.
The process of entering the portal is done through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database and everything is off and running. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request and that request cannot be refused.
Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship no longer has to be honored. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school is not obligated to provide a scholarship anymore.
