After four seasons playing in his hometown of Atlanta, Kyle Kennard is now heading to Columbia to play for South Carolina.
Kennard, a former edge at Georgia Tech, announced his commitment to Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks today. He is the latest addition for the program out of the transfer portal since the opening of the window this month.
Kennard appeared in 30 games as a Yellow Jacket with several coming in starts over the last two years as a defensive lineman. In total, he posted 111 tackles, 12.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception.
That included a breakout junior season this past year with career-highs across the board of 53 tackles, six sacks, and both forced fumbles along with the pick. He led the team in sacks while finishing sixth in tackles and second in forced turnovers.
Kennard played high school football at Riverwood (GA) where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 794 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He finished as the No. 60 EDGE and a Top-100 player out of the state of Georgia.
Beamer and company have been cleaning up with some high-impact additions in the portal. Kennard is no different as the latest transfer to join the fold for the Gamecocks.
