Grambling State transfer LB Andrew Jones commits to South Carolina
South Carolina is adding a big-time defender out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. Former Grambling State linebacker Andrew Jones has committed to the Gamecocks, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Jones earned second-team FCS All-American honors this season after racking up 122 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. His 122 tackles were 73 more than anyone else on the Grambling State team.
In addition to earning second-team All-American honors, Andrew Jones was also named the SWAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
Andrew Jones had a breakout season for Grambling State in 2024 after appearing in only two games last year. He came to play for the Tigers after starting his college career with the Memphis Tigers.
Jones signed with Memphis as a three-star recruit in the class of 2021, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He redshirted his first season on campus before appearing in 10 games in 2022. He finished that year with four tackles, one tackle for loss and a forced fumble.
Andrew Jones is joining a South Carolina team that is having an excellent season in 2024. The Gamecocks enter bowl season with nine wins and have won six straight games after a 3-3 start.

The South Carolina defense helped lead the turnaround as the Gamecocks were excellent on defense while relying on several transfers this season. They are hoping that Jones can step in and be an impact player on the defensive side of the ball in 2025.
Wake Forest OL transfer Nick Sharpe signs with South Carolina
South Carolina has been active in the transfer portal early on, including landing former Wake Forest offensive lineman Nick Sharpe.
Sharpe signed with South Carolina after spending four seasons with the Demon Deacons.
Sharpe appeared in all 12 games as a redshirt junior in 2024. He played on both the offensive line and on special teams, totaling 718 snaps between the two sides of the ball. As he heads to South Carolina, he will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Sharpe played high school football at Gastonia (N.C.) Hunter Huss, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1,408 overall player from the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
