James Hicks reveals his plan to prepare for Florida
South Carolina pitcher James Hicks recently broke down how he likes to prepare for opponents and how he’s prepping for the Florida Gators.
For Hicks, it comes down to relying on the South Carolina coaching staff for advice.
“I’ll look over them briefly the night before,” James Hicks said. “Then I’ll get with Coach [Justin] Parker the day of and see what notes he came up with and what I’ve got. He’s a lot better at it than I am. He’s been doing it for so long. So, I usually listen, really, to what he has to say. Really base it off that.”
James Hicks has appeared in 24 games this season, starting five for the South Carolina Gamecocks. In that time, he has a 3.32 ERA. He made two appearances against Florida this season, pitching four innings and allowing two runs.

“Well, hopefully, we don’t make it to a third game. You know James and Jack [Mahoney] have pitched great for us all year and I’m glad they get the opportunity to start the game, but you know, I was telling [Coach Mark] Kingston earlier this week whatever he needs me to do, whatever the team needs me to do, I’m going to do,” Sanders said.
“As long as we win the two games, and whatever role that falls into this weekend, if I come in and throw 10 pitches or three innings, it doesn’t matter, I’m gonna do everything I can to help win the game.”
Sanders also says that he’s excited about the chance to play against Florida.
“It’s definitely cool that it’s Florida. They beat us in the SEC Tournament last year. They ended our season and we’ve been working since then, and it kind of gives us a goal to go down there and beat them. It’s the biggest stage. We’ve got a weekend series to decide who goes to Omaha and that’s been the goal all year is to be in this situation. So, we’re blessed for it and we’re excited for it.”
