Florence (S.C.) West Florence four-star safety Kelvin Hunter announced that he has committed to South Carolina.

Hunter picked the Gamecocks over Appalachian State, Auburn, Michigan and Virginia Tech.

The 5-foot-11.5, 179-pounder is the No. 195 overall prospect and No. 17 safety in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 4 player in South Carolina.

Hunter’s been a frequent visitor to Columbia visiting campus five times already with his last trip on April 15 for the Gamecocks’ spring game. He’s set to return on June 23 for an official visit.

Kelvin Hunter currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $73K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Hunter part of back-to-back wins for South Carolina

Hunter wasn’t the only commitment that South Carolina picked up Wednesday afternoon.

Three-star offensive tackle Mike Williams out Maryland also announced his pledge to the Gamecocks at the same time as Hunter. With each of those commitments, South Carolina’s 2024 class is up to nine commitments.

Shane Beamer and co. are building what could end up being one of the top classes in program history as the Gamecocks sit with the No. 5 class in the country and the No. 4 class in the SEC.

This spring has particularly been a successful one for the Gamecocks as four of their nine total commitments have come in the last month. Top-50 four-star offensive tackle Josiah Thompson announced his pledge on April 14 and three-star interior offensive lineman Blake Franks committed to the Gamecocks on March 31.

The end of January and first few days of February were also a strong time on the trail for Beamer and his staff. While they entered 2023 with a lone commitment from three-star quarterback Dante Reno, the Gamecocks had built their class up five pledges by Feb. 3.

Four-star offensive tackle Kam Pringle became South Carolina’s first pledge of the new year on Jan. 22 and is commitment was followed up by commitments from four-star tight end Michael Smith (Jan. 24), four-star linebacker Wendell Gregory (Jan. 27) and four-star wide receiver Mazeo Bennett (Feb. 3).
