South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers shares the key to his success
The future appears bright for South Carolina freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers. The former South Florence High star impressed during the Gamecocks spring game after putting together an outstanding high school career.
In limited playing time during the Garnet and Black spring game, Sellers had 32 rushing yards and 66 passing yards, including a 50-yard completion.
Sellers was ranked by On3 as the No. 95 overall player in the country and the No. 8 QB in the nation for the class of 2023.
He recently sat down with the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame and spoke about what makes him the player that he is.
“I feel like just being able to rally the team, have everybody be able to trust you and stuff,” LaNorris Sellers said. “If something goes bad, they can look at you and you’re not down about it. You’re just like, ‘Next play mentality, next play mentality.’ Like I said, just being able to rally the team with everybody behind you.”
Sellers was originally committed to Syracuse, before flipping his commitment and signing with the Gamecocks.
As a senior, he threw for 2,948 yards and 45 touchdowns, with only two interceptions. Sellers also rushed for 1,338 yards and 17 touchdowns. He says that it took a lot of hard work to get to this point.

“Just really being confident in yourself and putting in the extra work. I’ve always been like that, just want to learn more, take more time in it to make sure I actually get it and master it for when I’m needed,” Sellers said.
The Gamecocks return Spencer Rattler at quarterback for 2023, but Sellers has a chance to earn the starting job for 2024. He could also play a limited role in the offense this coming year, bringing a different dynamic to the quarterback position from what Rattler does.
Sellers is thankful for the people who have helped him get to this point, and he also offered advice to younger players who are striving to play college football at the highest level and succeed.
“Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, because if you make mistakes, you can only learn from them so that they can help you,” Sellers said. “And also, whatever you do, always have fun doing it. If you’re having fun that means you’re enjoying it. If you’re not enjoying it, then there’s really no point in doing it. So just have fun and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.”
