LaNorris Sellers unleashes deep ball during Manning Passing Academy

LaNorris Sellers was among the top quarterbacks in college football who have been in attendance for the Manning Passing Academy over the past several days. Showcasing his skills, the South Carolina quarterback turned heads with one particular deep ball that was caught on camera.
Sellers took a five-step drop and heaved the football. Dropping back to the 28-yard-line, with one flick of his wrist launched the football down inside the opposite 10-yard-line. He caught his receiver in stride as the crowd cheered in appreciation for Sellers’ effort.
Sellers arm strength was on display for the Gamecocks throughout the 2024 season. His first as the starting quarterback, Sellers threw for 2,534 yards, and 18 touchdowns compared to seven interceptions thrown. He’s expected to make a leap from last season as early draft boards see South Carolina’s budding star as a potential first-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft cycle.
South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer described Sellers as “steady.” His quarterback is able to block the outside noise and maintain a level head win or lose. Beamer cited his character and humility as reasons why Sellers is always striving to be better.
“At this time, he was trying to earn the starting job at this point last year and was still a freshman,” Beamer said at the end of spring training. “… I see him. He’s still quiet, but certainly, let’s just be real. He’s the leader of the offense. He’s the leader of this football team.”

During spring training, Beamer alluded to Sellers’ stoic nature. He identified his QB1 as the quiet leader of the team. When he does speak, his peers listen. Beamer said, whether Sellers likes it or not, that his quarterback’s voice carries a lot of weight in the locker room. As the offseason progresses, Beamer has seen signs of Sellers becoming more assertive in his role.
“He’s done a nice job in his own way. Don’t be somebody that you’re not, but also understand that you’re the quarterback, and people on this team respect the heck out of you,” Beamer said.
Now a second-year starting quarterback, Sellers is going to be put under a microscope as one of the projected top draft prospects in next year’s cycle. He’ll be expected to play like one, too.
All eyes will be on Sellers as South Carolina kicks off its 2025 regular season against Virginia Tech inside Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Sunday, Aug. 31. They’ll host South Carolina State the following week in the home opener, as well as Vanderbilt in Week 3’s SEC opener.
