LOOK: Dawn Staley wearing Jalen Hurts jersey during South Carolina-Alabama game
South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley is a proud Philadelphia native — so proud she wore a Jalen Hurts jersey Sunday despite the fact her Gamecocks were facing Alabama.
With her team’s game taking place before the NFC Championship Game, Staley wore a green Philadelphia Eagles jersey with a black blazer. Hurts played three seasons for the Crimson Tide before transferring to Oklahoma and then getting drafted by the Eagles.
Whether it is taboo to wear the jersey of someone who once played for the school of your opponent or not, Staley clearly didn’t care. The undefeated and No. 1-ranked Gamecocks won the game, 65-52, to move to 21-0.
However, it was the second-closest score of any South Carolina SEC game this season.
Aliyah Boston, the favorite to be selected No. 1 overall in the 2023 WNBA Draft, led the way with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Bree Hall had a game-high 18 points off the bench.

Jalen Hurts and Dawn Staley have previously tweeted at each other
Dawn Staley and Jalen Hurts have tweeted about each other on Twitter before, although there is no public record if they have ever met in person yet.
After South Carolina won the national championship last year, Hurts quote-tweeted a video of the Gamecocks celebrating and wrote, “Legendary! Congrats Coach!”
Then earlier in this NFL season, Staley posted a photo of her in a Hurts jersey and said “Happy @Eagles day!! Let’s get this win tonight!!! Lead us @JalenHurts!!”
She will hope Hurts can lead the Eagles once again today against the 49ers.
