South Carolina quarterback Zeb Noland made headlines at the beginning of the year for his journey to becoming the Gamecocks’ starting quarterback to open the season.

Noland joined South Carolina as a graduate assistant coach after playing four seasons between Iowa State and North Dakota State. But after a number of injuries in the quarterback room, Noland opened the season as South Carolina’s starter. On the season, he completed 50 of his 89 pass attempts for 608 yards, six touchdowns and one interception.

Ahead of South Carolina’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl matchup against North Carolina, Noland has debuted a hilarious T-shirt.

“As promised @ColonelZebuliah and I have teamed up and got shirts made!! One last ride, go get yours at chickenscratchapparel.com,” Noland tweeted. “Thank you to all the loyal fans for all the support through it all this season!! ONE LAST RIDE!!”

Luke Doty and Jason Brown also saw significant snaps at quarterback for South Carolina this season in addition to Noland.

South Carolina’s quarterback room will look different next season

South Carolina’s depth in the quarterback room was truly tested this year, and nobody would have expected Noland to be in a position to play. But that was the reality of the situation, and first-year head coach Shane Beamer navigated the situation well throughout the year. No Gamecocks quarterback reached 1,000 passing yards or more than eight touchdowns this season.

While Noland going from graduate assistant to starting quarterback was a cool story, it showed South Carolina that the depth at the position needed to be addressed. The Gamecocks did that, and more, over the last week.

South Carolina added former Heisman favorite and Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Additionally, former Oregon commit and four-star quarterback Tanner Bailey signed with the Gamecocks. With Jason Brown entering the portal, South Carolina’s quarterback room is set to look drastically different next season. Depth is certainly not an issue.

South Carolina and UNC are set to face off at 11:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, Dec. 30 in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. The Gamecocks are currently 6-6 on the season.
