LOOK: South Carolina RB Lovasea Carroll announces he's medically retiring from football
Former Georgia and now former South Carolina football player Lovasea Carroll shared some sad news on Friday afternoon. In a Twitter post (which you can find below), Carroll announced the unfortunate update that he is medically retiring from the game of football.
“While it pains me to have to come to terms with my recent medical diagnosis, I am going to have to say goodbye to the game that has been by my side for as long as I can remember,” Carroll wrote in his statement, adding: “My life will forever be changed by the loss of this sport.”
He also issued thank you’s to South Carolina and Georgia, including Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart. You can read his full message right here:
Very tough news for the SEC playmaker. Lovasea Carroll spent just two years at the college level and appeared in six total games between stops in Columbia and Athens before having to hang his cleats up for good due to medical issues.

More on loss of Carroll for South Carolina
Via Wes Mitchell of GamecockCentral
Carroll, who started his career at Georgia, entered the transfer portal last January and then committed to the Gamecocks later that month. He transitioned back to running back in his lone season at Carolina after redshirting while playing defensive back at UGA, though he played in just five games for the Gamecocks, all on special teams.
The loss of the former four-star running back is another blow to the position at South Carolina.
The Gamecocks also lost running backs MarShawn Lloyd and Rashad Amos to the transfer portal. Jaheim Bell, a tight end who played running back late last season, also entered the portal and transferred to Florida State.
South Carolina will count on a couple of newcomers to make an immediate impact in Newberry College transfer Mario Anderson, who enrolled for spring practice, and four-star signee Dontavius Braswell, who will arrive this summer.
