Louisville EDGE transfer Demon Clowney commits to South Carolina

Former Louisville EDGE rusher Demon Clowney has committed to South Carolina out of the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He is the younger cousin of former Gamecocks star Jadeveon Clowney.
Despite committing to Louisville in late December, but he never played a game for the Cardinals. In March, three months after his committment to the program, he re-entered the portal. He spent nearly a month looking for his new home in college football — and it appears that it will be in Columbia with the Gamecocks.
Clowney played the last two seasons at Charlotte as a standout EDGE as a member of the 49ers. This came after he spent three seasons in the SEC with Ole Miss.
In two seasons at Charlotte, Clowney played in 22 games and tallied 10.0 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks. In his most recent season, in 2024, Clowney put up 26 tackles, 6.0 t ackles for a loss and 2.0 sacks. The year prior, in 2023, Demon Clowney logged 33 tackles, 4.0 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. He’s a productive player off the edge.
That said, Clowney’s career started off a bit quietly at Ole Miss. In three seasons he played in only eight games, credited with 12 tackles total.

However, as a recruit before ever stepping foot on campus, Demon Clowney was a four-star recruit and the No. 240 overall prospect in the nation in the 2020 class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was ranked as the No. 14 EDGE in the class and the No. 11 overall player from the state of Maryland, hailing from Baltimore (MD) St. Frances Academy.
Clowney will join a South Carolina team coming off a 9-4 season, which saw them finish tied for fourth place in the final SEC standings. The Gamecocks finished 5-3 in conference play in 2024, and will look to improve on that this coming fall.
