Luke Doty updates his progress this season, opens up on his 2022 role
South Carolina quarterback Luke Doty is so far a second-fiddle for the Gamecocks. But with the sheer number of injuries to the position, including a situation where a graduate assistant was activated to start games under center, Doty has seen plenty of playing time. He’s appeared in 12 games across two seasons. So a frequent option at quarterback, but never the top one.
For the still-fairly-young Doty, that’s just fine. This fall, he’ll be taking snaps behind Spencer Rattler, one of the top quarterbacks in the country. According to Doty himself, Rattler and the entire offense have come along well this summer. A lot less sloppy and much more organized than the unit was in 2021 during head coach Shane Beamer’s first go-around.
At a recent press conference, though, Doty was asked about how he is coming along this year, considering his injuries and the Rattler addition. Here was his assessment of his recovery and what he’ll bring to the team this fall:

Luke Doty on his role and recovery
“I definitely think my foot’s at 100%. My body, you know, feels 100%. And I just, you know, can’t give enough credit to the medical staff here. Just because of everything that they did for me and that, you know, with all that stuff going on last year, you know, this time. And just continuously doing everything that, you know, they do to, you know, make sure that everybody, not only me, is feeling, you know, their best every single day.
