MarShawn Lloyd comes to the defense of embattled OC Marcus Satterfield
South Carolina running back MarShawn Lloyd helped the Gamecocks to a 30-24 win over Texas A&M on Saturday with 92 rushing yards and two touchdowns. On Sunday, however, he felt the need to take to Twitter to defend his offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield.
“Please stop disrespecting Coach Sat! He’s literally the most dedicated coach I’ve ever had,” Lloyd tweeted on Sunday. “This man does not take his job lightly. I wish everyone could see all he put into this. Every time something goes wrong everyone goes straight to it being his fault when really it be us!”
The South Carolina offense notched just 13 first downs and they finished 8-for-16 on third-down conversions but ultimately, Lloyd’s four-yard touchdown scamper with three minutes remaining made the difference.

When the Gamecocks needed it most, the offense managed an eight-play, 80-yard drive. It was just enough to get them the win and to keep the critics at bay for Satterfield.
Shane Beamer reveals strong message to Marcus Satterfield
Saturday night’s game started off with a bang in the form of receiver Xavier Legette‘s 100-yard kickoff return to the house on the opening play. After jumping out to a commanding 17-0 lead early in the first quarter, the Gamecocks did enough the rest of the way to prevail victoriously, 30-24, in what was a very hard-fought affair in the second half.

Following the big win, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer talked about the biggest second-half adjustment that got his team the win while speaking with SEC Network’s Cole Cubelic.
“You know, I think we just executed better,” Beamer said. “We talked about trying to just wear these guys down. We pride ourselves on being a second-half, physical team and I told [Marcus] Satterfield midway through the third quarter, ‘Just get the ball to our best players and let them go make plays.’ And the running backs did that. [Austin] Stogner with a heck of a catch. [Josh] Vann. Jaheim Bell. I mean, on and on and on. So, these kids fought their butts off and I’m so happy for ’em.”
The win gave South Carolina their first four-game winning streak since 2013. The Gamecocks currently sit at 5-2 overall on the season and 2-2 in the SEC. Texas A&M fell to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the SEC.
“It’s been a long time not beating these guys,” Beamer said. “And what a great team they have. I mean the fight that they have to overcome the bad start that they had. Tons of respect for them. Man, we’re gonna enjoy the heck out of this one. We’ve got a lot to get better at. But, just so, so happy for these guys.”
