The South Carolina Gamecocks got a massive win over the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday night before a rowdy and raucous crowd in Columbia, South Carolina. The win gave the Gamecocks their first four game winning streak since 2013 and their first win over Texas A&M in program history. Following the big win, South Carolina running back MarShawn Lloyd and receiver Xavier Legette took some time to discuss how much it mean to them to finally take down the Aggies.

MarShawn Lloyd said the Gamecocks needed to run the ball more after the Arkansas game. He got what he wanted, and the superstar tailback delivered the clutch plays when his team needed them the most. Lloyd ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns — the last of which proved to be the game-winner for South Carolina. His four-yard touchdown run with 3:08 remaining in the fourth quarter put the Gamecocks up 30-21. They held on for a 30-24 victory, even after Texas A&M recovered an onside kick in the final seconds to make it a nerve-wracking finish. Following the victory, Lloyd shared his thoughts on how great it felt in his post-game press conference.

You can listen to the audio from Lloyd from 1:07 to 1:36 below in the video or read the transcribed quote below.

“It felt great. It felt great, you know. Finally being able to beat Texas A&M. It’s been eight long years. I’m just blessed to be a part of this team. We’re able to compete with anyone. And going out there and having a long drive like that, we have a bunch of believers on this team. A bunch of people that will just go out there and put their head down. Once we got the ball back from our defense that did great. Once we got the ball back from them, the offense pretty much just said, we put our foot down and we knew we were gonna get down there towards the end,” Lloyd said.

An electric crowd in Columbia, South Carolina reached a deafening roar on Saturday night, after Xavier Legette returned the opening kickoff 100-yards for a touchdown against the Aggies. He appeared to be bottled up on the right sideline sideline, broke a few tackles, and then decided to hit the Aggie defenders with a peace sign as he raced his way to the end zone, much to the delight of the Gamecock faithful in attendance. He even lost one of his shoes as he was returning the kick back, but nothing was stopping him from going to the end zone.

The kickoff return was the second-longest kickoff return in school history. It was the first kick return for a touchdown by the Gamecocks, since Deebo Samuel did it against Ole Miss during the 2018 season. Legette’s touchdown was critical in his team’s 30-24 victory and following the big win, he shared his thoughts on how much it meant to him.

The audio from Legette is from 2:00 to 2:15 in the video above and the transcribed quote is below.

“We haven’t beaten Texas A&M… Since I’ve been here I haven’t beaten Texas A&M, man. And they’ve been bad losses for me. And tonight, from the start of the game, we all had the confidence built up that we [were] gonna win it,” Legette said.

The Gamecocks were hungry for a win over the Aggies and it completely showed up on the field on Saturday night. Lloyd also explained how amped up South Carolina was coming into the game. You can listen to his audio above from 2:15 to 2:30 above or read the transcribed quote below.

“Emotions were high. You know, this is what we came here to do. South Carolina is on the rise. And just being able to do it in front of this amazing atmosphere. The emotions were very high. And we’re just blessed to be able to play in front of these fans and just have fun out there,” Lloyd said.

The Gamecocks currently sit at 5-2 overall on the season and 2-2 in the SEC. Texas A&M fell to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the SEC.
