The No. 1 seeded South Carolina Gamecocks advanced to the Elite Eight of the women’s NCAA Tournament on Friday. They handled the No. 4 seeded Maryland Terrapins, but it was a pretty hard fought game down the stretch. The Gamecocks prevailed 71-67. And following the game, MiLaysia Fulwiley shared her thoughts with Kris Budden.

Fulwiley was dominant, carrying her team on the big stage. She finished with 23 points, five rebounds, three assists, and one block. Chloe Kitts also stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

How were they able to pull out the win? “I think we just told each other that we’ve just gotta play together. We’ve gotta find our flow within our offense. And I think in the second quarter, we kind of did that. We had great defense the whole game. I just think we just kinda had to match our offense with our defense, statistically,” Fulwiley explained.

How was she able to find the openings to give her teammates a lift? “You know, my teammates, they make sure I’m confident in knowing that I can go to the basket with anyone guarding me. So, I just did one thing and go to the basket. It was working for me today, so I’m kind of proud of myself,” Fulwiley continued.

She was just proud of her teammates for sticking together and prevailing. It’s never easy in the NCAA Tournament and the Gamecocks managed to battle through and get the win.

“I’m just proud of us for sticking together. This isn’t easy. We play in a hard conference, SEC. We built for this. Ready for this. We practice a lot. We practice hard. We practice for these moments. We cherish the moments. We have to meet the moment. And I think we met the moment today,” Fulwiley explained.

Any early thoughts on the Duke Blue Devils, who they’ll face in their upcoming Elite Eight matchup for a chance to go to the Final Four? “Yeah, man. Duke, they’re a really great team. We have a great team as well. So, we’ve gotta start coming out there and ready to play. Don’t start the game how we started this game. We’ve got to start better. And we’ll be good,” Fulwiley finished.
