Myles Stute out vs. Ole Miss due to sprained left knee

Myles Stute is not with South Carolina for the Gamecocks’ road trip to Ole Miss, the team announced via X. The junior guard sprained his left knee during practice this week.
Stute has started 17 of the 23 games he’s appeared in this season for Lamont Paris’ squad. He’s been a key contributor to their efforts this season as well, averaging 9.0 points on a 39 percent 3-point clip.
He had started in the first 17 of South Carolina’s games this season where he was averaging a career-high 9.9 points per game on a 43.2% shooting from the field. He had previously scored in double figures in 11 games so far this season highlighted by a season-high 21 points in the Hall of Fame series against Virginia Tech.
Stute had recently returned from a different injury suffered in January, but was a massive help in leading the Gamecocks to a 14-3 start to the season.
Before the collegiate ranks, he was a three-star high school prospect out of Gonzaga in Washington, DC, where he was ranked the No. 187 overall player and the No. 44 small forward in the 2020 recruiting class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He committed to Vanderbilt out of high school.

With the Commodores, Stute appeared in 91 games and made 59 starts, averaging 8.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists while shooting 36.1% from three-point range.
This comes as a blow to the Gamecocks, who are holding on to a top four spot in the current SEC standings. A loss would potentially move them down, meaning their double bye in the conference tournament could be in jeopardy. Without a full team on the road, it’s up to Ole Miss to take advantage.
The opening tip from Oxford is set for 3:30 p.m. ET and will be aired live on the SEC Network. The Rebels are 3.5-point favorites over the Gamecocks, per FanDuel Sportsbook.
