Ohio State transfer Meechie Johnson commits to South Carolina
Ohio State transfer Meechie Johnson has committed to South Carolina, he tells On3.
“I chose South Carolina because I believe in coach (Lamont) Paris and what he is building there,” Johnson said to On3. “I love the style of play in the SEC and believe it will fit my game! Coach Paris is a coach who’s been on the biggest stages as a coach and has those same goals to do the same thing at South Carolina! He believes in me tremendously, the city of Columbia is beautiful, and I’m excited to be a Gamecock!”
The 6-foot-2, 172-pound point guard arrived at Ohio State as a consensus four-star prospect, ranking 91st nationally. Johnson graduated early from Garfield Heights High School in Cleveland to enroll early at Ohio State in December of 2020. After arriving in Columbus, Johnson played sparingly, less than six minutes per game. In the following season (21-22), Johnson saw his role expand, and played nearly 18 minutes a game. On the year, he averaged 4.4 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.
