On3 has updated its recruiting ranking for the 2024 class following the completion of the high school regular season for prospects. Dillon (S.C.) five-star offensive tackle and South Carolina commit Josiah Thompson is the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2024 On300.

The latest edition of On3’s 2024 rankings features 20 five-star players, up one from the previous update in September. Of those 20 prospects, 19 are already committed to college programs. While some recruits may have played their last down as a high schooler, evaluations — both in-person and on tape — are far from over.

This latest ranking sets the table for the important final ranking in January 2024. That last update comes after postseason all-star games, where top prospects across the country face off during a week of practices and end with games in Orlando and San Antonio. Following those evaluations, the 2024 On300 will finish with 32 five-star prospects.

The 6-foot-6, 275-pound Thompson committed to South Carolina on April 14, choosing the Gamecocks over Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, and others.

“What stood out ultimately about South Carolina is the way the coaches want you to become great on and off the field. I love the way they work hard every day. Working hard will help you achieve something great,” Thompson told On3 upon his commitment.

Josiah Thompson Scouting Summary

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power writes this about him as a prospect:

“Physically-gifted offensive tackle prospect with plus length and reactive movement skills. Measured in at around 6-foot-6, 275 pounds prior to his junior season. Has plus length and a big frame to continue adding weight. A twitchy mover for the position. Flexible athlete who plays low and with good pad level. Gets underneath the pads of opposing defensive linemen. Generates a push as a run blocker. Has some of the better reactive quickness among offensive tackles in the 2024 cycle. Will need to develop his pass set technique, but has the natural tools to be a top pass protector, likely as a left tackle. Has a developmental frame, but may need time in the weight room to add strength and mass. A high-upside prospect who projects as one of the top offensive tackles in the cycle pending further development.”
