On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine: South Carolina trending for Markee Anderson

Roebuck (S.C.) Dorman four-star interior offensive lineman Markee Anderson is announcing his commitment on July 31. The 6-foot-4, 300 pound prospect is deciding between Clemson, LSU, North Carolina and South Carolina. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Gamecocks have a commanding lead to land Anderson’s commitment at 82.3%.

Anderson has taken eight visits to South Carolina, including an official visit on June 24. He also officially visited his other three finalists last month.

The four-star enjoyed his most recent trip to Columbia. It was his first visit back in more than two months.

““It was a really great weekend,” Anderson told GameCockCentral’s Wes Mitchell. “Getting to meet more of the staff (stood out) and also getting to meet more of the players too. I haven’t always been able to hang out with the players (in the past), because it was an unofficial so it was good to get to hang out with the players, I would say, it was good to get their perspective on things.”

Recruiting impact if Anderson commits to South Carolina

Anderson is the No. 143 overall prospect and No. 10 interior offensive lineman in the 2023 On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3 rates him even higher as the No. 127 overall prospect. Both rankings rate him as the No. 2 player in South Carolina behind Mount Pleasant (S.C.) Oceanside Collegiate Academy four-star offensive tackle Monroe Freeling.

If he commits to South Carolina, Anderson would become the highest-ranked prospect in the Gamecocks’ 2023 recruiting class. He would also be the second interior offensive lineman prospect alongside Atlanta (Ga.) Pace Academy four-star Trovon Baugh.

The Gamecocks’ class is currently ranked No. 27 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 7 in the SEC. South Carolina’s group of 13 commitments is currently composed of six four-stars, six three-stars and one unranked prospect.

According to the RPM, the Gamecocks are also trending for another top-400 prospect. South Carolina is given a 96.2% chance to land Sumter (S.C.) four-star EDGE Monteque Rhames.

“Vicious run blocker with dynamite pop in his hands. Measured at 6-foot-3, 304 pounds with a 6-foot-7 wing-span prior to his junior season. Plays all over the line for what is traditionally a top high school program in South Carolina, but projects inside at the next level. A dominant run blocker with an explosive punch. Regularly plants opposing defensive linemen and linebackers on initial contact. Plays low and gets underneath the pads of defensive linemen. Functional strength shows up in track and field, where he was the state runner up in the shot put as a junior with a throw of 55-4.5 feet. Shows quick feet in pulling and working in space. Tests as an average athlete in terms of change of direction.”
