Xavier Legette is back in business. On Saturday, On3’s Matt Zenitz provided a pivotal update on the South Carolina wide receiver.

“South Carolina star WR Xavier Legette, who suffered an injury vs. Missouri last week, is set to play tomorrow vs. Texas A&M,” Zenitz wrote on Twitter.

Legette was listed as questionable this week after suffering an injury in South Carolina’s 34-12 loss to Missouri last week. Legette ranks ninth nationally and third in the SEC with an average of 105.1 receiving yards per game. Through seven games, Legette has 38 catches for a team-high 736 yards and three touchdowns.

Currently on a three-game losing streak, South Carolina will be happy to head into College Station with Legette by its side. Earlier this week, Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher praised Legette’s abilities.

“The receiver, Legette, probably a first round guy,” Fisher said. “Averaging almost 20 yards a catch, 38 catches. He’s 6-foot-3, 6-foot-4, 225, 228 pounds, can run, can play physical, can run routes.”

South Carolina suffers from injury bug

Legette is one of the few Gamecocks who has been able to overcome his injuries. South Carolina has been plagued with injuries this season, sidelining standouts such as wide receiver Juice Wells, linebacker Mo Kaba and Nick Emmanwori.

Beamer claims forces him into a constant balancing act between practicing physicality and keeping his players healthy.

“As a head coach, I struggle with It. I think about it a lot – just what we do in practice,” Beamer said. “Yes, we need the ‘good on good’ work, which we did some of that today – ones versus ones. And good on good, and let’s go play ball. We did a lot of that today, but you have to be smart with how much you’re doing it.”

Beamer has even reached out to unlikely sources for help with his particular problem.

“I called two NFL head coaches that I have good relationships with and just talked to them about that because you do have a smaller roster (in the NFL),” Beamer said. “We’ve got a lot of coaches on our staff that have spent time in the NFL, either as a player or a coach, so you can talk to them also.”

Injury-ridden or not, South Carolina will square off against Texas A&M at noon ET on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
