On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine: South Carolina trending for 4-star QB Ryan Montgomery
Findlay (Ohio) four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery looks to be close to a commitment decision, with South Carolina and Florida looked at as the main contenders to land him.
Both SEC East programs have hosted him multiple times during the past year and are currently without quarterback commitments. The Gators have also made a run at four-star signal-caller Antwann Hill, while the Gamecocks have largely focused only on Montgomery.
With a decision expected this month or next, an expert prediction from GamecockCentral.com recruiting insider Chris Clark has been entered — in favor of the Gamecocks.
“This Findlay (Ohio) product is the guy that offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has been zeroed in on for some time,” Clark wrote in his explaining his pick. “Although Georgia technically remains in the top three, it’s Florida and South Carolina at the top of of the board for Montgomery.
… Sources indicate to GamecockCentral.com that Montgomery will take one or two more spring visits. It is believed that USC will land one of those. The Gators remain in the race as well, no doubt. We think more momentum is with USC. If we had to make a call today, it would be for the Gamecocks.”

More on Montgomery’s recruitment
Montgomery spoke with On3 earlier this month about recent trips to Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
Florida: “I really like how Coach Napier approaches things. I like his process and the way he does things at Florida. How he is trying to do things and change the culture is unique to me. Florida is a really cool place I like the way they treat me. The staff really prioritized me since they started recruiting me, they have treated me as their true No. 1 guy and that has always stood out.”
Georgia: “What stands out about Georgia is the sustained success there. Georgia is somewhere I am going to be successful. Not just off the field, but on the field. Georgia is the standard of college football right now and they show no signs of slowing down. I can go there and get developed and compete for national championships year in and year out.”
South Carolina: “I am the only 2025 quarterback they are recruiting. South Carolina is all in on me and I don’t take that for granted. It is super-rare and it means a lot. Coach Shane Beamer and Coach Dowell Loggains have treated me as their No. 1 from even before they offered. The relationships, the culture and the family vibe are what keeps South Carolina up there.”
Montgomery is the nation’s No. 197 overall prospect and No. 14 quarterback in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 9 recruit in Ohio.
