Former South Carolina State running back Jawarn Howell has committed to South Carolina, via the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Howell only played one season at South Carolina State. However, it was an impactful campaign. In nine games, Howell tallied 809 rushing yards on 102 attempts, averaging 7.9 yards per carry. Howell also recorded seven rushing touchdowns.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound RB isn’t limited to the ground game. Howell also boasted 10 catches for 149 yards and two scores this season. His biggest game this past season came when he was named FCS National Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 283 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries against Howard.

Howell played high school football at Mooresville Senior (N.C.) High School, where he was an unranked prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Howell is the third transfer portal pledge in the Gamecocks’ class, joining former Arkansas running back Rocket Sanders and former North Texas back Oscar Adaway III. He has three years of eligibility remaining and his redshirt season.
