SEC fines South Carolina for field storming after blowout victory over Tennessee
Entering Week 12, Tennessee sat at No. 5 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. The Vols needed to simply continue winning and get a little bit of help to make it into the CFP. When Tennessee rolled into South Carolina, most expected the Vols to continue winning. But the result from Williams-Brice Stadium was shocking to everyone.
South Carolina’s offense looked the best that it has all season, and the Gamecocks nearly doubled up Tennessee on the scoreboard. Ultimately, South Carolina earned a 63-38 victory. After the game, Gamecock fans stormed the field in Columbia, which has now led to an expected fine from the SEC.
On Sunday afternoon, the SEC announced a $100,000 fine for South Carolina’s second offense under the league’s access to competition area policy.

The league’s full policy on access to the competition area reads as follows:
“Access to competition areas shall be limited to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and properly-credentialed individuals at all times. For the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during or after a contest shall spectators be permitted to enter the competition area. It is the responsibility of each member institution to implement procedures to ensure compliance with this policy.”
South Carolina dominated Tennessee throughout
The Gamecocks jumped out to a 21-7 lead after one quarter of play, and carried a 35-24 lead into halftime. South Carolina didn’t let up in the second half, outscoring Tennessee 28-14 in the final two quarters.

Spencer Rattler played at an elite level, one that many have waited for him to reach for some time. He completed 30 of his 37 pass attempts for 438 yards and six touchdowns. The Gamecocks held the ball for nearly 39 minutes on Saturday compared to just over 21 for the Vols.
It wasn’t just Gamecock fans that were riding high after Saturday night’s upset, though, as South Carolina football’s social media team came through with numerous trolls in the moments after the victory. South Carolina posted an image with Tennessee’s new orange helmets being stuck in a sandstorm, playing into the Gamecocks’ iconic pregame entrance. They later took a shot at Rocky Top.
After the game, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer was undoubtedly fired up and he made it clear that the Gamecocks are just getting started.
“I told Kirk and Chris yesterday, the last time I was in this stadium with them was when we beat Alabama when they were No. 1 in the country in 2010,” Beamer said after the game. “So, y’all got to keep coming back. But this is what this place can be and we’re just getting started here at Carolina.”
