Shane Beamer addresses South Carolina's offense in comparison to last season
South Carolina is off to a fast start under its new-look offense, averaging 32.5 points per game to start the 2022 season. The Gamecocks have plenty of new pieces in the fold, but Shane Beamer said the players from last year are helping with continuity.
South Carolina hit the transfer portal this year and notably landed quarterback Spencer Rattler and tight end Austin Stogner to help transform the offense. Rattler was the biggest fish, coming in at No. 5 in the 2021 On3 Transfer Portal Rankings, and brings plenty of experience to the position.
Beamer said a mix of the new and old faces will help the Gamecocks offense find consistency this season, especially with a big test coming up in Week 3 against Georgia.

“I would say there’s a better understanding,” Beamer said. “A lot of these guys, it’s year two in the system, so there’s a better understanding that they have of what we’re asking them to do, there’s a better understanding of us. And then, frankly, we’ve got more depth. We’ve got a really experienced quarterback that continues to get more and more comfortable with what we’re doing each week. We’ve got more experienced running backs, we’ve got more depth at wide receiver.
“When you look at what ‘Juice’ [Antwane Wells] did last week, when you look at what Jalen Brooks did the week before. You look at what [Ahmarean Brown] has done, and then you add Josh Vann, Dakereon Joyner, Xavier Legette to that. Then, you’ve got Jaheim Bell and Austin Stogner. We’ve got more weapons around the guys than what we went into the season with last year at this time. For us, it’s just continuing to develop depth and continue to get more and more confident and more and more comfortable with what we’re doing, as well.”

Shane Beamer preparing offense for major challenge against Georgia defense
Shane Beamer and South Carolina have a tall task ahead of them as they take on No. 1 Georgia at home this weekend, especially on the offensive side of the ball. The Bulldogs defense terrorized offenses all of last season, and seem to have picked right back up where they left off this year.
Beamer spoke about his strategy regarding the offense this week in their matchup and whether he planned on throwing the whole kitchen sink at UGA’s defense.
“We want to continue to condense what we do offensively and just make sure that we’re sound,” Beamer explained. “However number of plays we have, we know as an offense how we’re gonna be able to block it and run routes against these multiple looks that we’re going to get. As opposed to having too many schemes, you can’t rep it all against all the stuff that you’re gonna see from them.”
