Shane Beamer calls out, pokes fun at the media following South Carolina shellacking of Tennessee
The South Carolina Gamecocks shocked the college football world on Saturday by hanging 63 points on Tennessee and knocking the Volunteers out of the College Football Playoff picture. After the game, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer took a few playful jabs at the media gathered because of their predictions for the game.
“First of all, y’alls predictions for this game were about the worst I’ve ever seen,” Beamer joked. “I read some of them in the hotel today, what y’all picked and y’all couldn’t have been more off. Just what a great night for our players, our coaches, our staff, our organization, our university, our state, the city of Columbia. What a night. I mean, I don’t even know where to begin. I’ve been saying it every week, y’all think I’m crazy. We got a good football team. And we showed it tonight. I get it, we played like crap last week.”
It is easy to see why many picked against the Gamecocks against the country’s No. 5 team. South Carolina had lost two of its last three games, one a 13-point loss to Missouri and the next a 32-point loss to Florida. The Gamecocks’ offense was struggling and putting up 63 on Tennessee seemed unthinkable. But Spencer Rattler thought otherwise.

The times are changing for Beamer
The win for Beamer’s Gamecocks might be the one that turns around the trajectory of the program. South Carolina went 6-6 last year in Beamer’s first season as head coach and went on to win the bowl game. With a game against Clemson next week, many were projecting another 6-6 finish for South Carolina. Now, the Gamecocks have ensured a winning record and possibly even an eight-win season.
If South Carolina pulls another upset next week, it would mark the first time it has won eight games as a program since 2017. The Gamecocks and Tigers kick at noon ET next Saturday in Clemson, South Carolina.
