Shane Beamer excited about EDGE transfer Jatius Geer
Jatius Geer became the latest addition for South Carolina through the transfer portal last month. Considering what all he brings to the table, Shane Beamer couldn’t be more excited about bringing him back to his home state.
Beamer commented on Geer with media during a stop in Florence on the ‘Welcome Home Tour’. With what he can add to their defense as well as the fact that he’s from South Carolina, Beamer is very pleased with the fact that he’s now a Gamecock.
“(I’m) excited about him. He had a productive year last year at Syracuse,” Beamer said. “(He’s) somebody who’s from the state of South Carolina. So it’s important to get a South Carolinian back on our roster, especially one that’s as productive as he is. And especially one that’s at a position of need like he is.”
“He’ll help us to provide depth in that room, pass rush ability, and size,” said Beamer. “And it’s good to get a guy in here that’s hungry but has also played a lot of football.
From there, Beamer also added Geer’s eligibility as another positive. Although he appeared in two seasons for the Orange, a redshirt means that he will have plenty more college football to play at South Carolina. That’s something Beamer is pleased with considering it fits the mold of some of their other additions through the portal.

“It’s great. And nothing against the guys that you bring in that just have one year. But, certainly, when you can get a guy in here? And know he’s going to be with you for a while? It’s huge,” said Beamer. “It’s almost like bringing in a freshman from somewhere that you get a chance to develop. But it’s also somebody that’s played a lot of football.”
“We’ve got some other guys like that in our program. We’ve got some guys that have transferred that have already had productive years for us last year that are here this year. And, technically, have another year next year if they wanted it as well,” Beamer said. “It’s a fantastic benefit.”
Geer produced 30 tackles, 3.5 sacks, a pass deflection, and a forced fumble over 14 games, including 12 starts. That all came after he arrived at Syracuse as a three-star prospect and Top-100 DL in 2021 according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
Beamer now has quite the defensive piece to mold with Geer coming home. With what all he can do and how long he can still do it for, he’ll be a piece that the Gamecocks will have their eyes on in the seasons to come.
