Shane Beamer explains why South Carolina has extra motivation vs Texas A&M
The South Carolina Gamecocks roll into Saturday’s matchup searching for their first four-game winning streak since 2014. If they want to get to that mark, they’ll have to do so against the Texas A&M Aggies, a team they have struggled mightily against in the past. The Aggies have owned the Gamecocks in the series, currently owning a flawless 8-0 record. South Carolina is looking to change that on Saturday and finally get in the win column. Gamecocks’ head coach Shane Beamer knows that his team has plenty of added motivation heading into Saturday and discussed it in Tuesday’s press conference.

“Yeah, we talked about it a little bit this morning and we haven’t [beaten them]. Certainly, that’s disappointing. That’s a game that we need to win at some point. But also make the point that has nothing to do, give A&M credit, but that has nothing to do, give A&M credit. But that has nothing to do with the 2022 game. There’s a bunch of guys that are going to be playing on Saturday night that have never even played Texas A&M. And every year is different. Give credit to A&M, they’ve been better than us,” Beamer said.
“I remember watching that game on TV, whatever it was, 2014 I think?! When they came in here–SEC Network started. I think it was SEC Network, right?! Because it was on ESPN and it flipped to SEC Network. I realized I didn’t have SEC Network and needed to get it that night. But, I remember watching that on TV and they’ve been better. We need to play and coach a lot better than we have in the past. But certainly, anytime you can have the opportunity to do something that you haven’t done, that’s motivation,” Beamer said.

Texas A&M entered the 2022 season with lofty expectations after entering the season being ranked No. 6 in the preseason AP poll. Those dreams were quickly shattered when they were dealt devastating losses by the Appalachian State Mountaineers and the Mississippi State Bulldogs–which effectively knocked them out of the Top 25. Shane Beamer has lived up to his father’s legacy of blocking punts this season–the Gamecocks currently lead the nation in blocked punts (five). Beamerball continues to remain alive and well.
South Carolina and Texas A&M will play on Saturday, Oct. 22. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 PM EST on the SEC Network.
