The South Carolina Gamecocks got a massive win over the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday night before a rowdy and raucous crowd in Columbia, South Carolina. The win gave the Gamecocks their first four game winning streak since 2013 and their first win over Texas A&M in program history. Following the big win, South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler said in the post-game press conference that the win lifted a lot of pressure off head coach Shane Beamer’s back.

“Um, he was just very happy. It was like a brick off his back. We did this, you know. We talked about how it’s time now to get this win. He’s happy we got the win. Everybody’s happy we got the win. The President got a game ball. It was just happy vibes in there,” Rattler said.

Saturday night’s game was instantly broken open by South Carolina receiver Xavier Legette — who took a 100-yard kickoff return to the house on the opening play. It was the first kickoff returned for a touchdown by the Gamecocks, since Deebo Samuel did it against Ole Miss during the 2018 season.

After jumping out to a commanding 17-0 advantage early in the first quarter, the Gamecocks did enough the rest of the way to prevail victorious, 30-24, in what was a very hard-fought affair in the second half.

MarShawn Lloyd said the Gamecocks needed to run the ball more after the Arkansas game. He got what he wanted, and the superstar tailback delivered the clutch plays when his team needed them the most. Lloyd ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns — the last of which proved to be the game-winner for South Carolina. His four-yard touchdown run with 3:08 remaining in the fourth quarter put the Gamecocks up 30-21. They held on for a 30-24 victory, even after Texas A&M recovered an onside kick in the final seconds to make it a nerve-wracking finish.

Shane Beamer thanked the crowd for the electric atmosphere

Following the victory, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer spoke with SEC Network’s Cole Cubelic about what he wanted to say to the Gamecock fans.

“Thank you. You’re right. This is the best environment in all of college football. At night, when this place is rockin’ like this. They were an advantage,” Beamer said. “I told the team before the game, ‘We can’t get out here and lose our minds, because the crowd’s not gonna win the game for us.’ I think I screwed that up. I mean, they helped us win that football game tonight. So, I’m an idiot. But I’m so happy for them.”

The Gamecocks currently sit at 5-2 overall on the season and 2-2 in the SEC. Texas A&M fell to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the SEC.
