Shane Beamer provided some comedic insight into some tactics one of his former employers used to deploy. As Beamer revealed what he hopes to see from South Carolina during their spring game, the Gamecocks leader hilariously called out one of his old bosses.

“If you have a huge day on offense, and the narrative is the offense, and what’s wrong with the defense. And if the offense doesn’t score, it’s what a great defense we got, and what’s wrong with the offense. So to me, you’d love to see both sides have some success,” stated Beamer. “Some players that step up and make some individual plays. And then for me it’s really just the efficiency, and just the way we operate and guys performing. Does it look like a well-coached team, does it look like the type of team that we want to have here at South Carolina? Hopefully we walk out of there on Saturday night and we feel that way, as well.

“You know, I’m a guy — I’ve worked for a previous head coach where going into the spring game, he was going to take our best pass rusher off the field, so the defense only had ten players. So his offense could score some points in the spring game. I won’t say any names, but I’m not to the point of that, where I want the offense to have so much success, where I make the defense play with ten. But I do want to see both sides certainly have some success, and I feel confident that we will.”

Shane Beamer may have eluded to some shady dealings, but the South Carolina coach was careful to keep names out of it. Time will tell if Beamer has some cunning tactics of his own for the event in his second season.

Shane Beamer reveals what South Carolina must improve on in 2022

A 7-5 rookie season has laid the foundation for South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer to put together one of the best offseason resumes in the SEC. But that was just a taste of the grandiose long term plans Beamer has likely schemed up.

But how much can this team improve following a Duke’s Mayo Bowl victory over North Carolina and a subsequent mayo bath for the first year headman? Instead of being coated in mayonnaise, he’d rather have confetti falling from the rafters. But first, he’s going to have to make some changes.

“We do have to handle success better. We talked about it in a team meeting this morning that we started out 2-0, then we went 2-2, and then from that point on, we never won more than two in a row, and we never lost more than two in a row,” Beamer said. “… You competed and you came right back the next week and won the football game. There’s great things to learn from that but also being able to handle that success when you have a great win over whoever it may be — Florida, being able to handle that success and perform better the following week.”

Coming into year two, Beamer and his club have plans to keep improving and be a consistent contender in the SEC – and South Carolina is putting in the work in spring practices to prepare themselves to accomplish just that. With the additions of multiple high-level transfers and incoming freshman to the roster, the newness of the matter has changed the national perception of South Carolina from a mid-level SEC team, to the dark horse of the entire conference.
