Shane Beamer provides injury update on South Carolina players
South Carolina has a handful of key players injured heading into its showdown with No. 1 Georgia this weekend, but the injury update revealed by coach Shane Beamer kept things fairly basic.
Anyone currently dealing with an injury has a pretty simple injury designation.
“If you’ve got specific questions about guys I’ll answer them, but I’ll tell you the same thing I told you Sunday night,” coach Shane Beamer said. “Everybody’s questionable. So pretty much anybody you’re going to ask me about is questionable. They all practiced today or did a little bit in practice except Ahmarean Brown, but we expect AB to do some stuff tomorrow and we’ll see how everybody progresses throughout the week.”
Brown, like key defensive back Nick Emmanwori, is dealing with a hamstring injury that can be quite fickle.
As a result, South Carolina is keeping things very basic and step by step for both players. Neither will be rushed back into action before they’re ready, with the goal of rolling them off the injury update just as soon as they’re ready.
“Those are things that can linger throughout the season if you don’t let them heal the right way,” Beamer said. “You don’t want to rush things, for sure. But we’re smart with it. Clint (Haggard) down in the training room and our strength and conditioning staff ramping him up and trying to do what he can do each and every day.”
Brown would add another weapon to a receiving corps that already boasts some good ones. He has logged 75 career catches for 957 yards and eight touchdowns.
The biggest chunk of that production, though, came as a freshman at Georgia Tech five years ago. Brown wants to produce at a high level now.

That’s where Beamer and his staff have had to be careful, making sure the injury update doesn’t stay unnecessarily long.
Even guys like Emmanwori, who are beginning to work their way back in a bit more, need to be aware of the risk for reinjury.
“I told him before practice, like he practiced today and looked good out there in practice I thought,” Beamer said of Emmanwori while providing his injury update. “He didn’t do everything. He was limited, but looked good. And it’s like I told him at the beginning of practice, you’re practicing today and you do it a little bit today and you’ll do a little bit more tomorrow and a little bit more on Thursday and Friday walk-through or jog-through and we’ll be ready to go on Saturday.
“Trust the medical personnel and the strength and conditioning personnel. They want to get out there and go, without a doubt, but we’ve got to be smart and realize that we don’t play today, we play on Saturday.”
