Shane Beamer provides injury updates on Jatius Geer, Tyreek Johnson, Ahmarean Brown
Ahead of an SEC home opener against Mississippi State on Saturday, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer had health updates on a trio of injury Gamecocks. Mostly, it was good news.
As of the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday, Beamer was optimistic that at least two of the three players he had updates on would be available on Saturday. For a team that’s been plagued by injuries early in the year, any reinforcements help.
For defensive lineman Jatius Geer and edge rusher Tyreek Johnson, it was good news.
“JT and Tyreek, we just got off the practice field, they practiced today. We’re optimistic that they can play on Saturday,” Beamer said.
However, the South Carolina pass catching corps continues to be banged up. With Juice Wells lost for some time after an injury on Saturday, it doesn’t seem like senior Ahmarean Brown will be back to provide some help this weekend, at least.
“And then as far as AB, he did not do as much as those two guys did in practice and we’ll see how it goes going forward,” Beamer said.

Beamer shared an update on Juice Wells earlier in the week
Wells is out for Saturday’s game versus Mississippi State due to a foot injury, Beamer announced Tuesday.
The injury, Beamer said, is not season ending, though.
Wells left last week’s game against Georgia in the first quarter after scoring a touchdown. After heading to the medical tent, Wells was carted off the field before later returning. He was seen with a boot on his left foot.
During a mid-game interview with CBS, Beamer said he suspected Wells broke a bone in his foot.
“He’s done right now,” Beamer said. “Think he may have a little bit of a broken bone in the foot. The good news is it’s the foot we just did surgery on, so he’s got a screw in there that stabilizes it. So there’s hope. I doubt he comes back today, but we’ll see what happens going forward.”
Beamer had said after the game he expected there be to an update Tuesday.
“Yeah, he wasn’t able to finish. We’re going to let him see a specialist on Tuesday this week and should have a better idea then. I don’t think what it is is necessarily season-ending. We feel like it’s something that he’ll be able to play with and we’ll know a lot more here on Tuesday,” Beamer said.
