Shane Beamer provides update on OL coach Greg Adkins' temporary leave of absence
While South Carolina got a 50-10 win over South Carolina State last night, the program did take a hit. The Gamecocks announced that OL coach Greg Adkins would be on a temporary leave. With this sudden shift on the staff, Shane Beamer addressed it after the win against the Bulldogs.
Beamer said he won’t share anything more besides that it’s a medical issue. However, he did say he doesn’t expect Adkins to miss a ton of time with the condition.

“He’s fine. Just a minor medical issue. He’s fine. I talked to him yesterday and he was in great spirits. His son, who’s on our team, is doing well. Not much more to share. Just a medical condition that he’s got that he’s taking care of,” said Beamer. “I don’t think it’s going to be long-term. When I talked to him yesterday afternoon, he told me that he felt like he’d be back really, really soon.”
Adkins joined the program last season on Beamer’s initial staff at South Carolina. He has several stops along his coaching career on the offensive line including other stops in the SEC.
While the release of his absence came as a surprise last night amidst everything else going on for South Carolina, it’s not completely new as Adkins did miss time last season for a health issue too. For now, though, it’s left to Lonnie Teasley to be the Gamecock’s interim OL coach until Adkins makes his eventual return to the program.

Shane Beamer reacts to South Carolina’s dominant win over SC State
It wasn’t the week South Carolina envisioned with two less days to prepare for a matchup against SC State, but the Gamecocks dominated en route to a victory. Afterward, Shane Beamer opened up about what the unique week was like.
South Carolina opted to move the game from Saturday to Thursday as Hurricane Ian was closing in on the United States. That meant Beamer’s group had two less days to prepare, and they proved they could handle it with a 50-10 victory at Williams-Brice Stadium.
During his postgame interview, he said the players responded well.
“I was proud of them,” Beamer told SEC Network’s Alyssa Lang. “They handled the week well. Not normal, obviously, and a quick turnaround. Didn’t always play pretty tonight, but responded at the right times tonight. We’ve got to get the penalties on defense cleaned up and some of the turnovers on offense cleaned up. But for the most part, I was really, really proud of them.”
