Shane Beamer raves over LaNorris Sellers after win vs. Texas A&M: 'He's special'
South Carolina‘s 44-20 upset over Texas A&M during Week 10 was something the Gamecocks had been searching for all season.
Having had more than one close call against ranked opponents slip through their fingers this season, to beat a top 10 team in that manner had to feel incredibly validating for Shane Beamer and company. The Gamecocks head coach credited the play of quarterback LaNorris Sellers as a major contributing factor to South Carolina’s winning effort last weekend.
“He’s special,” Beamer said in his postgame press conference. “He just continues to get better. I told the TV crew on Wednesday when we met with them, when we had those tough losses against Alabama and Ole Miss, he was extremely inexperienced. When we went to Alabama, that was only the second game all season that he played the entire game in. … He just continues to get better.”
Sellers finished the game with 244 passing yards and 2 touchdowns. He added 15 carries for 106 yards and another score on the ground en route to the 24-point victory.

Beamer said he saw signs of Sellers’ performance throughout the week in practice.
“We do two minute in practice on Sunday nights and Thursdays,” Beamer continued. “We do one offense versus one defense and he led a two minute drive in practice on Thursday where, and no offense to our defense, it was like, bang, bang, bang. He went like 70 yards in three plays for a touchdown in two minute.
“I told Dowell [Loggains] after practice when we are watching tape, that is really impressive some of the throws he made. Dowell made of the point like, don’t jinx him but he has really been good the last few weeks and he has. Some of the individual effort plays that he made tonight. … I told our team on Thursday after practice, in a game like this, two evenly matched, physical SEC teams, it comes down to quarterback play and we have the better quarterback. That wasn’t coach speak. That is how I truly felt. I told the team that in practice this week and he played like it.”
Sellers and the Gamecocks will look to mirror that performance — and outcome — against a tricky Vanderbilt Commodores team on Saturday.
Kickoff is set for 4:15 p.m. ET and will air live on the SEC Network.
