Shane Beamer reacts to Ole Miss stopping clock with injuries: ‘Really bad look’

South Carolina did not have the best day against Ole Miss, losing at home by 24 points. A lot frustrated head coach Shane Beamer following the game but the timely injuries from the Rebels was certainly one. Right when LaNorris Sellers and the offense would get something going, another defensive player was down on the field.

Beamer had to bite his tongue when speaking on the topic postgame but did say the move from Ole Miss was a “really bad look.” This is assuming the frequency of the injuries meant there were no issues.

“First of all, I hope all of those guys are all okay,” Beamer said. “… I hope they’re okay. It’s remarkable to me how many — I have my own problems, we just got out butts kicked 27-3. But it’s fascinating to me how many injuries occur to them after the opposing offense makes a first down or has a big play…

“The timing on some of the injuries — it’s a really bad look for college football. And it’s not what this game is about if what it looks like is accurate.”

When preparing for the game, Beamer noticed a similar pattern from Ole Miss. Watching other big-time games against Wake Forest and Kentucky signaled to South Carolina the strategy was coming from Lane Kiffin’s sideline.

“You go back and watch the Wake Forest game, it happens a lot to the same guy,” Beamer said. “You watch the Kentucky game, it happens a lot. Certainly, we’ll look at the tape and I know there is a review process as well. I hope those guys are well and they’re great players.”

Beamer admits there is not much the in-game officials can do. If somebody claims to be hurt, the game needs to be stopped and attended to by trainers. Injuries are a part of the game and medical treatment is required in such a physical sport.

He wrapped up the conversation by saying there would be a conversation with people in the SEC offices in Birmingham.
