The Masters Tournament always brings out the biggest stars to Augusta National for the weekend. That included South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer today who, earlier this afternoon, experienced something special with his son Hunter.

Beamer spoke with Marty Smith in an interview on ESPN’s ‘Welcome To The Masters’ during the tournament. With his son getting into golf, Beamer said that Hunter got to take part in something very neat with Scottie Scheffler all thanks to a polite security guard.

“It was amazing,” recalled Beamer. “We were standing there. And my son’s getting into golf and is a big fan of a lot of these guys. He likes Scottie Scheffler. And an unbelievably kind security guard came up and asked, ‘Are you waiting on a particular golfer?’. We said Scottie Scheffler. Then he said come here and he took my son right in the front row of the twelfth tee box.”

“He got a front-row seat as Scottie came down eleven and got ready to tee off,” Beamer continued. “After he hit his tee shot on twelve, the security guard went and picked up the divet and the tee, gave it to my son. And he’s still walking around with that in a cup right now.”

Again, there’s nothing quite like The Masters and it’s because of moments and stories like the one the Beamers had today at Augusta.

Then, as he continued his conversation with Smith, Beamer recalled his experience actually getting to play the hallowed course once upon a time. He said it was as indescribable as everyone imagines but that he also had the performance that some would expect to have out there.

“It’s an unbelievable thrill to be able to be out there. I can’t put it into words,” said Beamer. “What gave me the most trouble? Putting, at times. I’m still mad at myself that I dumped it into the water on eleven.”

This will be something to remember for Beamer and his son with this highlighting his first time at The Masters. We’ll have to see if anything else comes out of the Gamecock coach’s time there, though, as the second round continues into this afternoon.
