Shane Beamer admittedly has never seen The Sopranos, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other shows that have caught his attention.

At SEC Media Days in Nashville, Beamer elaborated on his binge-watching habits, or the lack-thereof. Apparently the South Carolina leader has a soft spot for Ted Lasso, who he’s been compared to in the past.

“I see things that people compare me, he’s like the Ted Lasso of college football, I’ve read that. I started Ted Lasso about two years ago, and I got about halfway through season one. I’ve been watching that all summer,” explained Beamer. “So end of Ted Lasso right now. Ozark, love that one. That was on. Stranger Things. Love Stranger Things, watching that.

“I’m not a huge like, TV, movie guy, but in the summertime I will. If I know I’m going to be traveling and on airplanes, I’ll just watch something on there. … And Outerbanks. I’ve got to plug Outerbanks tooFilmed in South Carolina.”

That’s genius of Beamer to be caught up on the Outerbanks, especially coaching the Gamecocks. Still, maybe someone should get him a MAX subscription, as shows like The Wire, The Sopranos and Succession are just begging to be watched.

Maybe after football season is over. Until then, Shane Beamer’s entire focus will be on taking the Gamecocks to the next level, and that’s music to South Carolina fan’s ears.

Shane Beamer shares key to South Carolina taking the next step

Continuing, South Carolina is a program that earned a fair share of buzz coming into this season because of how they closed the previous one. Even so, Shane Beamer wants the Gamecocks to know that there’s more work to be done in Columbia.

Beamer commented on the necessary improvement that South Carolina needs to undergo while talking with media at the THSCA. He said that there’s no reason to be complacent as there are still very clear ways that the Gamecocks can improve.

“What we’ve talked about since January is there should be no complacency in our program,” Beamer said. “We went from two wins to seven wins to eight wins. So we’ve done some great things. But we’ve got a lot to improve on as well.”

We haven’t done a good enough job running the ballwe haven’t done a good enough job of stopping the run. We’ve got to be better there for us to take the next step,” continued Beamer. “Two years in a row we’ve been last in the SEC in giveaways. No offense in this conference has turned the ball over more than we have the last two seasons. That’s embarrassingly bad. So we’ve got to correct that first of all as one of the many things. There’s a lot of areas to improve. And that’s what we’ve just challenged our coaches and players (to do) since we came back in January.”

There’s certainly work to be done, but the future is bright with South Carolina, and the Gamecocks could be a force for years to come.
