Shane Beamer reveals South Carolina's 'ace in the hole' to secure Lovasea Carroll's transfer

Shane Beamer has gained a bevy of talented athletes through the transfer portal, including former Georgia athlete Lovasea Carroll. In his 2022 National Signing Day News Conference, Beamer revealed how South Carolina was able to land the former four-star recruit.

“With Lovasea, it was just wanting to play running back and I don’t want to speak for the coaches at Georgia, but I think he was going to move back to running back at Georgia,” stated Beamer. “Obviously, I wasn’t here when he was getting recruited the first time here. But I know he loved this place, and still has a lot of ties here in Columbia.

“I don’t want to get into his personal business, but his girlfriend’s in Columbia. So, we had a heck of an ace in the hole with that one, as well. She was the best recruiter. Knowing she was living in Columbia, as well. Which we all wish every recruit was that easy. And I hope she doesn’t mind that I just announced that at the press conference, their relationship. But that was a natural fit because of that. And he loved this place I know coming out of high school.

“I don’t know what all happened leading up to signing day, but we talked about it a little bit. But he’s a guy, he’s got great speed. You watch his high school tape, it’s impressive the speed and explosion he puts on tape.”

As you can see, Shane Beamer had a little help in bringing Lovasea Carroll to South Carolina. Nevertheless, Gamecocks faithful is happy the talented athlete will be suiting up for South Carolina in 2022.

Georgia transfer cornerback Lovasea Carroll has announced that he’s taking his talents to South Carolina to suit up for the Gamecocks in 2022. He made the news public with an announcement graphic posted to his Twitter account last week.

Carroll, a former On3 Consensus four-star recruit out of the Class of 2021, entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Jan. 14 after playing in four games and making three tackles for Georgia last season.

Carroll, now transferring to South Carolina as a running back, had initially committed to the Gamecocks as an offensive player in high school before flipping to Georgia and playing on the defensive side of the ball.

A native of Bradenton, Florida who prepped at IMG Academy, Carroll will be a sophomore with the Gamecocks in 2022.
