Evidently, Shane Beamer isn’t about extra bells and whistles. Prior to South Carolina’s opening game this Saturday against Eastern Illinois, the Gamecocks head coach made his message clear while revealing his team’s uniforms.

“We’re going to wear white helmets, garnet jerseys and white pants on Saturday night. So, there’s your uniform reveal for the week,” Beamer said in a press conference. “We are very thankful that Under Armour takes great care of us, and gives us a lot of uniform options and combinations, but we are not going to get into every single week spending time and wasting a whole lot of time as a team trying to figure out what we’re wearing on Saturdays.

“Let’s worry about how we play, not what we’re wearing.”

While fans may love to see their different uniform combinations, winning looks good no matter what you’re wearing. As far as Beamer is concerned, there are bigger fish to fry.

Beamer’s proclamation is his public call to action before the Gamecocks first game, but it’s not the only statement he made of importance. Additionally, Beamer made a huge announcement yesterday.

Beamer names Zeb Noland starting QB

Zeb Noland is a graduate assistant that transferred from North Dakota State to help coach the Gamecocks. Now, he’s been named the Gamecocks’ Week 1 starting quarterback.

As presumed starter Luke Doty works his way back from injury, South Carolina gave Zoland the nod. Moreover, Doty isn’t listed on South Carolina’s depth chart. Jason Brown is currently listed as the backup quarterback.

“In all seriousness, we named Zeb Noland our starting quarterback this week,” Beamer said Tuesday. “Obviously, he has Power Five experience. It wasn’t that long ago. He played in [an FCS] playoff game a few months ago.

“He is very efficient getting us in and out of the huddle, commanding the offense, controlling what’s going on out there. [Noland] has a great understanding of what we’re doing offensively because he spent the entire summer — I know he told you guys — drawing up the playbook and coaching.”

Prior, Noland played three seasons at Iowa State before transferring to North Dakota State last season. Noland replaced Trey Lance, throwing for 721 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions in the spring.

“We’ve got a lot of confidence in Zeb being able to go out there and operate at a high level on Saturday night,” Beamer continued. “We’re not asking him to go out there and win the football game. We’ll never ask our quarterbacks to do that. We’re going to ask him to get us in and out of the huddle cleanly and efficiently, without pre-snap penalties.”
