Shane Beamer shares photo with Dan Mullen, playfully shouts out Georgia fans
There’s nothing like some friendly SEC football trash talk. The banter is even better when it’s coming from an unlikely pair.
On Sunday, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer posted a picture with former Florida head coach Dan Mullen and himself standing on a dock together. In fitting fashion, Beamer added a joking jab at an opposing SEC fan base.
“Great catching up with [Dan Mullen] today in Georgia. Thanks to all the Georgia fans that spent the afternoon driving by singing the “Redcoat Band Chant” on their boats.”
If you’re not familiar, the “Redcoat Band Chant” is a staple from the Georgia Redcoat Marching Band. In other words, it’s a tune that recently has haunted opposing SEC coaches’ dreams, including Beamer and Mullen.
While Mullen was 2-4 against the Bulldogs before being fired from Florida in 2021, Beamer hasn’t been so lucky. The 46-year-old head coach is 0-2 against Georgia while at South Carolina, losing by over 30 points in both contests.

Of course, at one point, Beamer would have celebrated this achievement. From 2016 to 2018, Beamer served as Georgia’s tight ends coach and special teams coordinator. Nonetheless, he’s no longer singing “Go Georgia Bulldogs.”
Beamer will have a chance to get his revenge this season. South Carolina will face off against the Bulldogs on Sept. 16 in Athens, Ga. Gamecocks’ fans’ hopes are high after winning back-to-back games against No. 5 Tennessee and No. 7 Clemson to close out last year’s regular season.
Beamer is happy to see the enthusiasm around the program.
“Coming off the way we finished the season, with the last two regular season wins, and the success we had with other wins throughout the season, there’s a lot of excitement. And, it’s great to be able to get out and hear that from the fans,” Beamer said on May 22.
