Shane Beamer shares how South Carolina can compete for championships
Shane Beamer has a goal for South Carolina to win SEC and national championships, but it’s quite the process to get there.
After bigger moments in 2022, Beamer is now 15-11 as the Gamecocks’ head coach as the team finished No. 23 overall last season. But the team and Beamer want more.
He spoke on Next Up with Adam Breneman on how South Carolina can compete at the highest level of college football.
“Yeah, I know it’s simple but we just gotta continue to recruit and develop depth,” Beamer said. “You know we’re getting there but our depth isn’t where it needs to be at every position where you’re full of depth all across the board. We’re not there yet. So we need to continue to recruit and develop depth at at all positions, without a doubt. And then to me is, we just continue to be very forward thinking in everything that we do as a program and as a university and as an administration.”
Basically, everything’s been on the up and up for Beamer and crew since he took over South Carolina.

“I mean, we’ve got great facilities here,” Beamer said. “We’ve got a great stadium, home field environment, all that is well, but we can’t just think okay, we got what we need and we’ve arrived and take a breath. There’s no complacency and I’ve challenged our players and coaches this season this offseason in 2023, find better ways of doing things. We just can’t assume that because things went well and 2022 that is just automatically going to happen and 2023. Be better.
“Me be better as a head coach, find better ways of doing things in every department here and to me that’s the biggest thing. We don’t comfortable, we don’t get complacent, which we won’t and we continue to grow. (I’ve said we want to) continue to move this program forward as a university and as an athletic department and then us as a football program as well, and then recruiting.”
With quarterback Spencer Rattler back under center, some believe he can be a Heisman candidate this season. In what will be one last dance before the NFL, Rattler has the talent to be special and make it a special season for South Carolina.
Right now, if you want to place bets, place one on South Carolina to hit the over on that win total. It might all break right for South Carolina and Beamer this year.
