Shane Beamer, Steve Spurrier paired for 2022 Peach Bowl Challenge charity golf tournament
The 2022 Peach Bowl Challenge is an annual charity golf tournament that will be played on Tuesday at Reynolds Lake Oconee right outside of Atlanta, Georgia. The tournament is played by current and former college football coaches, and two very prominent South Carolina Gamecocks names will be playing alongside one another. According to the release from South Carolina on Monday, current South Carolina head football coach Shane Beamer will be playing on the same team as the Gamecocks’ all-time winningest head coach, Steve Spurrier.
Beamer and Spurrier are listed as Team 2, and they will be one of 11 pairings in this year’s tournament. Beamer will be playing for The Beamer Family Foundation, while Spurrier is playing for the HBC Foundation.
Teams are competing for a share of the $330,000 charity purse on Tuesday. The winning team will split $60,000 between their two charities, and the remainder of the pool will be split amongst the remaining teams.
This past season was Beamer’s first as South Carolina’s head coach, and he led the Gamecocks to a 7-6 overall record and a Duke’s Mayo Bowl victory over North Carolina. Spurrier spent 11 years at South Carolina, leading the Gamecocks to an 87-49 overall record and nine bowl appearances, five of which were victories.
