Shane Beamer has to prepare his South Carolina Gamecocks for arguably the biggest game of their 2022 season, fresh off a loss against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Saturday, the Gamecocks will take on the top team in the land, the reigning College Football Playoff national champions, the Georgia Bulldogs. And after a loss in Week 2, some might think the team would be lacking in confidence. Well, according to Beamer, it is the exact opposite.
“I’d say our guys have a lot of belief. I told our staff on Sunday, I don’t want to hear one person talking about anybody can beat anybody on Saturday, don’t wanna hear one person talking about shocking the world, don’t wanna hear one person talking about we just gotta be better than them on Saturday. We don’t have to be better than them all 12. And then, as soon as I walk out of the staff meeting, I got text messages on my phone from family members essentially telling me the same thing,” said Beamer.
Despite the loss, South Carolina put up quite the fight on the road against the Razorbacks. The Gamecocks put up 416 yards of total offense, with 376 coming through the air. Unfortunately, where they came short was on the defensive end and in the turnover battle. South Carolina had a total of three turnovers in the game, two fumbles, and one interception. Their defense allowed 457 yards of total offense, with 295 coming on the ground.

What happened in Week 2 is all in the past. The Gamecock players are operating this week with short-term memory loss; forgetting the loss ever happened. And as a program, this mindset is easily obtained when you or one of the better teams in arguably the best conference in college football, the SEC.
“There’s great belief in our program. I don’t have to like rally them to make them believe. They believe; they have confidence, and they should. We’re a really good SEC football team, and we got really good SEC football players. There’s a lot of players on this team that Georgia wanted on their team. And there’s players on that Georgia team that we wanted on this team, as well. So to answer your question, we have belief every single week. I don’t have to sit in here and convince these guys that we can win the football game. We gotta bunch of competitive dudes on this football team that can’t wait to go compete on Saturday.”
