Shane Beamer: The way South Carolina finished game vs. Furman was 'bullcrap'
Despite a 26-point victory, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer was madder than a wet hornet over the final couple possessions of the game against Furman.
The Gamecocks had little trouble gaining a big lead against the Paladins, and built the advantage up to 47-14 thanks to a touchdown pass from backup QB LaNorris Sellers to 6’5 freshman wideout Nyck Harbor. After that sequence, things did fall apart a bit.
On South Carolina’s next possession, a different backup QB entered the game: redshirt freshman Tanner Bailey. On a second down play from the team’s own 23 yard line, Bailey was sacked and fumbled the ball straight over to Furman. On their very first play of the ensuing possession, the Paladins struck gold on a pass to their tight end for a touchdown.
Ultimately, the Gamecocks still won 47-21, but Shane Beamer was not happy with how the final few possessions played out in his postgame press conference.
Shane Beamer displeased with end of game
“We were able to get out there and have some success tonight. And then, really disappointed with the way we finished the game. That’s bull crap,” the Gamecock coach stated bluntly, explaining the team’s various mishaps.

“You know, we haven’t had a turnover all season and we go in there and we turn the ball over, looked bad doing it. We got a holding penalty. I don’t know if I’ve seen that where it’s a naked boot you’re just running to the right and then booting to the left and we get a holding penalty. That’s hard to do. And then they give up a touchdown.”
These errors were mostly committed by backups who normally don’t get run with the starters. Even though they’re not as experienced, Beamer was still upset over the simple mistakes.
“We emptied the sideline. I mean, everybody I think played tonight for the most part. But still, when those guys go in, they’re expected to perform. And disappointed with that.”
Overall, though, Shane Beamer is happy with the win and ready to improve off of it.
“But a lot to build on, lots to correct. We’ve got a lot that we have to improve before next week. But great win against a really good team. Those guys are going to win a lot of football games this year. I’ve got a ton of respect for Coach Hendricks and his program and the way they do things, and they played their butts off. You saw that tonight, but great win for us.”
