WATCH: South Carolina fans rush the field following stunning 63-38 blowout of fifth-ranked Tennessee
The South Carolina Gamecocks stunned the college football world on Saturday night by absolutely throttling the fifth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers with a 63-38 beatdown. The Volunteers lost their star quarterback Hendon Hooker, who went down with what appeared to be a devastating non-contact knee injury. Even with Hooker in the game, the Gamecocks were in firm control of Saturday night’s contest. The closest Tennessee would come to leading would be with 9:30 left in the first quarter. The Volunteers tied it up at 7-7, then, but wouldn’t manage to come close to leading the rest of the way.
The Vols closed the South Carolina lead to 35-31 with 9:53 remaining in the third quarter. Then the Gamecocks proceeded to rattle off 28 unanswered points as they secured one of the biggest victories in the Shane Beamer era in Williams-Brice Stadium. Not surprisingly, the South Carolina home crowd stormed the field to celebrate the massive upset.
Check out the video below.
Of course, storming the field is unquestionably going to draw a fine from the SEC, but Gamecock fans do not care. The upset victory delivered a knockout blow to Tennessee’s dreams of making the 2022 College Football Playoff.

Gamecocks’ corner Cam Smith did an excellent job blanketing Tennessee’s superstar wide receiver, Jalin Hyatt, all night long. Hyatt only hauled in six catches for 66 receiving yards and no touchdowns. Smith tweaked his hamstring late in the first half, but returned to the game in the second half and had a marvelous performance against Hyatt, one of the most unstoppable receivers in the country.
The South Carolina Gamecocks will face off against their in-state rivals, the Clemson Tigers on Saturday, Nov. 26. Kick off for that one is slated for 12:00 PM EST.
