LaNorris Sellers opens up on what it was like taking the field for South Carolina
Saturday was the first home game of the season for South Carolina as they hosted Furman, but it was the very first home game ever for Gamecocks’ freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers.
Williams-Brice Stadium was rocking as the stadium was packed for the team’s home opener, and after the game, Sellers revealed what it was like taking the field for the very first time in South Carolina uniform in front of a home crowd.
“I had quite an adrenaline rush I’ll say,” Sellers said. “Couldn’t really see through the smoke coming out of the thing at first, but it was fun.”
Sellers may not have been able to see when he took the field for the Gamecocks, but it became very clear that he would have an opportunity to receive some playing time in the second half of the game as South Carolina began to take over the game.
Sellers excelled in his Gamecocks debut, completing all four of his pass attempts for 86 yards and two touchdowns in the first game of his collegiate career. He found freshman teammate and friend Nyck Harbor on his second touchdown of the day on a back shoulder fade route in the red zone, reflecting on that touchdown and his South Carolina debut at large.

“It felt good, going out there first home game, nerve-wracking a little bit but I was excited,” Sellers said. “And then before I went in they just told me to do what I was taught, just play the game and I’m glad I connected with Nick. We put in the work, the extra work, and finally came to fruition.”
As a recruit, Sellers was a four-star prospect out of South Florence High School where he was ranked the No. 21 quarterback and the No. 355 overall player in the nation for the the 2023 recruiting class according to On3’s Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Harbor on the other hand was the crowned jewel of South Carolina’s 2023 recruiting class, as he was the only five-star of Shane Beamer‘s most recent class ranked the No. 1 ATH in the nation by On3’s Industry Ranking.
There’s no question that Spencer Rattler and Juice Wells are the quarterback and receiver duo of the present in Columbia, but Sellers and Harbor could have given Gamecock fans a look into the future following their showing on Saturday.
